About Pomoflow
A simple, powerful tool built for pure focus.
Our Mission: Reclaiming Your Focus
In a world overflowing with digital distractions, the ability to concentrate is a superpower. We built Pomoflow for one simple reason: to be a quiet sanctuary for deep work. We were tired of productivity apps that were part of the problem—buggy, bloated with features, demanding sign-ups, and covered in distracting ads just to use a simple timer.
Productivity tools shouldn't steal your attention; they should protect it. Pomoflow is our answer to that problem. It's a minimalist, privacy-first tool that does exactly what it promises: it helps you focus, for free, forever.
The Pomoflow Philosophy
- Zero Friction: The timer should be two clicks away. No sign-up, no login, no paywall. Just open the tab and start your session.
- Minimalist by Design: We believe a focus tool should be calm. Every feature, from the themes to the task list, is designed to be helpful without being distracting.
- Privacy First: Your tasks and statistics are your business. All data is saved locally in your browser and never sent to a server. We don't want your data; we want you to do your best work.
- Accessible to All: Deep work and effective study habits shouldn't be a luxury. Pomoflow is a free tool for students, developers, writers, and anyone looking to reclaim their time from distraction.
What is the Pomodoro Technique?
The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. The concept is brilliantly simple: break down your work into focused, 25-minute intervals (called "pomodoros") separated by short 5-minute breaks.
This cycle is repeated four times, followed by a longer break of 15-30 minutes. This structured approach is scientifically backed to improve mental agility, reduce burnout, and make overwhelming tasks feel manageable.
The 5 Steps of the Technique
- Choose a Task: Decide on the one thing you will work on. Add it to the Pomoflow task list.
- Set the Timer: Start the 25-minute "Pomodoro" timer.
- Work with Full Focus: Work on the task without interruption. If a distraction pops into your head, write it down and return to your task immediately.
- Take a Short Break: When the timer rings, take a 5-minute break. This is mandatory. Stand up, stretch, get some water. Do not check email or social media.
- Take a Long Break: After completing four pomodoros, take a longer, 15-30 minute break. This allows your brain to rest and consolidate the information you've learned.
Why This Method is So Effective
The Pomodoro Technique isn't just a timer; it's a powerful psychological framework. It works by leveraging several key principles of cognitive science:
1. It Defeats Procrastination
The hardest part of any task is starting. A 25-minute commitment is small, non-threatening, and easy to agree to. This "low-friction" entry point helps you overcome the initial resistance and build momentum.
2. It Manages Distractions
The technique trains your "focus muscle." When an interruption occurs (an email, a new idea, the urge to check your phone), the rule is to make a note of it on a piece of paper (or in our task list) and get back to your pomodoro. This teaches you to acknowledge distractions without acting on them, preserving your state of flow.
3. It Reduces Cognitive Load and Burnout
Your brain isn't designed for 8-hour sprints. It operates in cycles of high and low energy (Ultradian Rhythms). The forced 5-minute breaks are not "wasted time"; they are essential for cognitive recovery. They prevent mental fatigue, allowing you to maintain a high level of performance for hours rather than burning out after 60 minutes.
4. It Improves Planning and Awareness
By breaking your day into 25-minute blocks, you get a much clearer, more accurate sense of how long tasks *actually* take. This data-driven approach (which you can see in your Pomoflow Stats) helps you plan your days, weeks, and projects with far greater accuracy, reducing anxiety and last-minute rushes.

A Personal Project
Pomoflow began as a personal tool. As a developer and lifelong learner, I needed a timer that was faster than all the others, respected my privacy, and didn't try to sell me a subscription just to change a sound. It was built on the belief that the tools we use should be as focused and intentional as the work we aim to create with them.
This site is maintained and improved by a single developer (hello!) who is passionate about building simple, high-quality tools that solve real problems. We believe in the open web and in providing genuine value to our users. Your support, feedback, and use of this tool are what keep the project alive and growing.
